These Three Tips Are How To Begin A Garden On A Budget!

It’s the summer season and gardens everywhere are looking bright – but are you worried about the potential high costs of embracing your green thumb?

Many people think that in order to have a beautiful garden, they need to spend a lot of money. However, this isn’t the case! There are several ways you can set up and maintain a garden without worrying about spending too much.

Here are a few tips:

Use Organic Materials As Much As Possible

Organic materials are not only better alternatives for the environment, but they can also be very cost effective when compared against store-bought options. Manure, for example, is an excellent way to fertilize your garden without spending a lot of money.

Another great organic alternative is using mulch. Mulch helps keep your soil moist and can prevent weeds from growing. You can usually find mulch for very cheap at your local hardware store or garden center.

Avoid Using Water Unnecessarily

When looking for plants and flowers to fill your garden, research how much water they require prior to picking them out. Some only need a light shower once a week!  Additionally, only water your plants only when they need it (not when it “looks” like they need it), and use a hose with a trigger nozzle so you don’t waste any water.

Choose Plants That Are Appropriate For Your Climate And Soil Type

One mistake a lot of people make when starting a garden is choosing plants that are not suited for our climate or soil type. This can often lead to problems right away with the plants not receiving the proper heat or water amount as soon as they’re planted, and can sadly result in the plants dying shortly after being planted.

Take the time to learn about what plants will work best in your garden before you buy them, and you’ll save yourself a lot of money and headaches down the road.

What Type Of Plants Should You Look In To?

There are a number of plants that are both cheap and easy to care for that you can find at most greenhouses!

Here are a few of our favorite, inexpensive outdoor plants:

Marigolds

They thrive in full sun and can tolerate a wide variety of soil conditions! Marigolds are also resistant to most pests and diseases, so you don’t have to worry about them being attacked by bugs or getting sick.

Sunflowers

Sunflowers are easy to care for because they don’t require a lot of water or maintenance. They’re a great choice for beginner gardeners and can add a pop of color to any garden.

Hostas

If you don’t have access to much sun for your garden, the hosta is quite all right with that. They are one of the most shade-tolerant plants out there, and they come in a variety of colors and sizes.

Get out there and embrace your green thumb while knowing you don’t have to sink more than you feel comfortable while adding some gorgeous greenery to your property.
